Actually, going back, I do often call fellow supporters Hammers, but I'd more than likely just say "He's West Ham."

Both is the intuitive response. Come on you irons! I like the use of irons, because you know it's rootsy, but if I were referring to a fellow West Ham supporter, I'd say he is a Hammer. I could say he's an iron, but that can be misunderstoood.
